Presentation at Asian Society of International Law, Regional Conference 2016: International Law and a Dynamic Asia, at Hanoi, 14-15 June, 2016

In 14-15 June 2016, Asian Society of International Law’s Regional Conference 2016: International Law and a Dynamic Asia was held at Hanoi, Vietnum. Professor Yasunobu Sato (Director of the Research Center for Sustainable Peace) and Mr. Shinya Ito (Research Assistant of the Center) attended the conference and made presentations at the Panel 2B:Human Rights (International and Regional Perspectives).

Professor Sato’s presentation titled “Network Governance for Human Security: A New Paradigm for Business and Human Rights” discussed the issue of business and human rights. Based on his fieldwork, the land problem in Cambodia was analyzed as a case study. He argued the necessity to introduce new concepts such as human security and network governance into the discussion.

The title of Mr. Ito’s presentation was “Retrieving the Voice of Silent Majority: The Expansion of “Human” Horizon through Justiciability on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in International Law”. He examined justiciability of economic, social and cultural rights with particular focus to the interaction between universal and regional human rights instruments and showed the interpretative change of such rights from State-centered to human-centered.

After the presentations, lively discussion was held between the other participants. The conference was a great opportunity for this center’s research project.
