概要：
The Indian Ocean is not equal to the Indian Ocean “World”. To replace the Indian Ocean as a geographical sphere into Indian Ocean “World,” we have several ways. For example, one can mark port towns around the Indian Ocean and draw lines among these ports as trading routes, and image people, materials, cultural phenomena, beliefs, money etc. flowing over these lines. This network system can be represented as an Indian Ocean “World.” However, it is obvious that this network model could not catch dynamism of flows. Actual flows do not terminate at port towns, rather than that, these go beyond port towns, i.e. geographical sphere of the Indian Ocean. We seek for potential to imagine the Indian Ocean World from the dynamism of flows. Observing each individual flow, often we notice these flows stop at several places and return to the departure point and leave there again, and this process often take place beyond the geographical limit of the Indian Ocean. This conference aims at rediscovering the Indian Ocean “World” through these “gyres.”
